OUR STORY
Founded in 2008 by Alain Arnaudet and Christian Caujolle, Photo Phnom Pehn Festival (PPP) is commited to promoting photography and establishes itself as a platform for dialogue between Asia, Europe and the world. Designed for both emerging and established artists, as well as for the general public, the festival encourages the circulation of works, practices, and expertise, while fostering professional exchanges and networking among key actors in the field.
After seventeen years of existence, the festival is entering a new phase. It is moving away from the direction of a single curator to adopt a collective curatorial coordination, bringing together image specialists based in Europe and Asia. This choice strengthens the festival's local and regional anchoring, opening it up to a plurality of perspectives and promoting more contextualized dialogues.
PPP now draws on the skills of young artists graduating from Studio Images — House of Photography. Founded by the Association Photo Phnom Penh, this first school entirely dedicated to photography in Southeast Asia opened its doors in 2024 and has since become a central pillar of the festival.
In 2026, PPP will coincide with the 20th Francophonie Summit, hosted in Cambodia, a country with deep historical connections to the Francophone world. This dual framework will help strengthen the festival’s international visibility, reach new audiences and, in a perspective of intercultural dialogue, highlight the diversity of photographic expressions within the Francophone world.
Indoor exhibitions, outdoor installations, screenings, workshops, and participatory events will take place in cultural venues and emblematic sites across the two cities, fostering exchanges between artists, residents, and international visitors. Conferences, round tables, portfolio reviews, and professional meetings will complement this program, offering spaces for reflection and training for participants from the Cambodian and international scenes.
Through these initiatives, the Phnom Penh Photo Festival seeks not only to support the visibility of artists and to develop public interest, but also to act as a tool for professional development and for structuring the photographic sector at local, regional, and global levels, while addressing the contemporary challenges of photography.
